The Virginia Regional Environmental Management System (V-REMS) is a partnership of over 70 federal, state, and local public and private organizations that collaborate to address regional community and environmental issues.

The innovative partnership strengthens community relationships and promotes environmental sustainability by reducing air emissions, improving water quality, and minimizing waste in the areas where its partners operate.

Over the past 5 years, the V-REMS partnership has continually sought out areas of regional collaboration and improvement by forming workgroups to address regional areas of concern.  Beginning in 2009, the V-REMS partnership has focused its efforts on the development of the Green Collar Training for Veterans (GCTV) Workgroup.  This workgroup aims to promote and advance sustainability efforts among V-REMS partners and identify ways to aid in developing a Green Collar labor pool in an effort to assist military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan in transitioning into key environmental and sustainable support jobs throughout Virginia.

In addition, the V-REMS partnership also provides specific benefits to each of its partnering organizations by helping them to:

V-REMS participants do not all have Environmental Management Systems (EMS).  Rather, the common bond between V-REMS partners is their commitment to improving the environmental performance of their respective organizations and the environmental quality of the regional environment.

  • The DSCR was recognized as a winner of the White House Closing the Circle Award for its leadership of V-REMS.
The V-REMS partnership is supported by the Defense Supply Center Richmond (DSCR).  The V-REMS website includes both a public side and a password-protected internal private side.  V-REMS and Green Collar Training for Veterans members can access the internal private site of the website by entering their email address and password into the Login section on the left.  To find out more information about becoming a V-REMS or Green Collar Training for Veterans partner, please refer to the "How to Participate" page in the About section of the website.
