Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Solid Waste (HQ)

http://www.epa.gov/epaoswer/osw/index.htm
General Description
Nearly everything we do leaves behind some kind of waste. Households create ordinary garbage. Industrial and manufacturing processes create solid and hazardous waste. The Office of Solid Waste (OSW) regulates all this waste under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). We protect human health and the environment by ensuring responsible national management of hazardous and nonhazardous waste. Our goals are to:
1. conserve resources by reducing waste;
2. prevent future waste disposal problems by writing result-oriented regulations;
3. clean up areas where waste may have spilled, leaked, or been improperly disposed.
