General Description
Fort Eustis is the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. Fort Eustis and its satellite installation Fort Story are the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Center, Army Transportation School, NCO Academy, Army Aviation Logistics School, 8th Transportation Brigade, and 7th Transportation Group (Composite). Other significant tenants include the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command - Operations Center, Army Training Support Center (ATSC), and the Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (AATD).
At Fort Eustis and Fort Story, officers and enlisted soldiers receive education and on-the-job training in all modes of transportation, aviation maintenance, logistics, and deployment doctrine and research.
Environmental and Community Priorities
Fort Eustis has three EMS functional teams working in the areas of land management and training support; procurement; and quality of life/infrastructure. Activities for 2006 include: managing invasive species; addressing electronic waste; increasing solid waste diversion; obtaining access to E85; reducing water consumption; and improving energy conservation.
Benefits of V-REMS Involvement
V-REMS provides an excellent opportunity for information exchange and to establish partnerships that advance our mutual interests. Because of V-REMS, Fort Eustis has joined the Hampton Roads Clean Cities Coalition and other V-REMS partners in identifying E85 sources and future pump locations. Through V-REMS, Fort Eustis has been able to identify resources that will enhance and improve installation EMS/environmental initiatives. For example, arrangements are in progress for installation project personnel to tour the CarMax facility and learn more about LEED standards.
