General Description
Langley Air Force Base is home to the First Fighter Wing, longest operational air base in the United States. The installation is situated on the Coastal Plain between the cities of Poquoson and Hampton. We are home to approximately 11,000 military and civilian workers and their families on 2882 acres of developed land is surrounded on two sides by coastal areas. The mission of the United States Air Force is to deliver sovereign options for the defense of the United States of America and its global interests -- to fly and fight in Air, Space, and Cyberspace. To achieve that mission, the Air Force has a vision of Global Vigilance, Reach, and Power. That vision orbits around three core competencies: Developing Airmen, Technology-to-Warfighting, and Integrating Operations. |

Environmental and Community Priorities
EMS is new to Langley AFB; we plan to declare an in-compliance EMS in June 2007. Currently we are operating on a high level with ten Management Action Plans for the ten primarily Compliance driven activities. We are establishing the Objectives and Targets for those activities. The Air Force has moved from a strictly Environmental program to incorporating Safety and Occupational Health into an over-arching Environment, Safety and Occupational Health program. Langley AFB will be joint basing with Ft. Eustis in 2008. |

Benefits of V-REMS Involvement
Langley AFB will primarily use V-REMS for information on opportunities and resources for their implementation. Of particular interest will be information on invasive species, pollution prevention and recycling. |
