Question:

Does anyone have any experience in wrapping their boilers in insulation? I am looking for sources as well as justification numbers, before and after the fact.

Asked by:Jimmy Parrish

Answer:

Regarding boiler insulation, most of the resources (such as items below, including insulation software, from DOE's Steam Best Practices pages) really are on insulating pipes and fittings rather than the boiler itself.

Qualified Steam Specialists have successfully completed classroom and practical training, passed a rigorous exam, and demonstrated their ability to use Best Practices Steam tools. Specialists apply these tools to help their plant or industrial customers identify ways to improve steam system efficiency. The U.S. DOE recognizes these industry professionals as Qualified Specialists, but does not specifically endorse any individual or company.
